Top Florida high school QB transferring to powerhouse Chaminade-Madonna

One of Florida’s top high school football programs is getting even better.
On Saturday, Tampa Bay Tech (Fla.) rising senior quarterback Darryon Jones announced on Twitter that he is transferring to state and national powerhouse Chaminade-Madonna for his final season. The Lions are a perennial powerhouse and won their ninth state title last fall with a 42-7 rout of Clearwater Central Catholic.
Jones will now bring some star power to the Lions’ quarterback room and is expected to compete with incumbent starter Tyler Chance for the job. Chance ended the season as the team’s starter while sharing time with Penn State signee Bekkam Kritza and sophomore Preston Wright.
Heading into 2025, they’ll have even more talent in their room as they look to repeat their title.
As a junior last season, Jones led Tampa Bay Tech to a 9-3 season in Florida’s Class 5A classification. He finished the season completing 92-of-172 passes for 1,558 yards, 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
According to his Twitter account, Jones holds offers from Arkansas State, Mercer, Navy, Florida A&M, Coastal Carolina and more. With his addition, the Lions will feature one of the state’s most potent offensive attacks.
