Top-25 recruit Trey McKenney commits to Michigan

Trey McKenney, the top-ranked high school prospect in the state of Michigan, has committed to Dusty May and the Wolverines.
The 6-foot-4 senior shooting guard out of Flint (MI) St. Mary’s ultimately chose Michigan over Georgetown and USC, but also received offers from Michigan State, Oregon, Creighton, and many others.
McKenney is the nation’s No. 21 overall prospect, No. 7 shooting guard and No. 1 recruit from Michigan in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
McKenney becomes the Wolverines’ third commitment this cycle, joining four-star SF Winters Grady (No. 53 nationally) and four-star PF Oscar Goodman (No. 99).

What led to his trust in the coaching staff?
“Just believing in their word and then spending a lot of time with me even though they have their own program to attend to and also just feeling it was right with them.”
In his own words, what type of player is getting in Trey McKenney?
“I will say I’m a competitor and I’m able to guard at a high level and I’m also a three level scorer.”
He has a message for Michigan fans.
“I’m ready to rock Maize and Blue and put on for the fans and my state. Go Blue.”
Scouting Report
“Trey McKenney is a strong-framed guard. He has a sturdily-built base and a plus wingspan. McKenney had great feel for the game. He is an adept, multi-level scorer. He has range that extends beyond the arc, he shoots with consistency and good balance. What he lacks in burst, he makes up for with pace. Has a solid straight-line handle. He is a solid passer and can get his teams into sets. While he might not be the optimal height as an off-guard, McKenney is a tough and sound defender. He uses his strength and his toughness well when guarding the point of attack. He is instinctive in the passing lanes. McKenney is a productive player on both ends of the court, consistently making plays.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
