Shortly after news broke of Sherrone Moore’s firing at Michigan on Wednesday, LSU legend Tyrann Mathieu had a message for Wolverines quarterback Bryce Underwood. He took to social media to ask the former No. 1 recruit to “come home” if he so chose.

Thursday afternoon, during an appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show, Mathieu explained the post. He acknowledged how serious the situation is at Michigan after Moore’s firing for cause and subsequent detainment by police, but fans at LSU have not forgotten Underwood’s commitment to the Tigers during his recruitment.

Underwood initially committed to LSU as the top player from the 2026 cycle before flipping to Michigan ahead of National Signing Day. It proved to be a landmark moment for the Wolverines, and he became their starting quarterback this year. But in light of the coaching change, Mathieu said he simply wanted to remind Underwood that people in Baton Rouge still remember him.

“Obviously, Bryce, he was projected to come to us for a long, long time,” Mathieu said. “And obviously, it’s a serious thing that’s going on at Michigan right now. Just everything with that program. That was just a reminder to him that, hey, there’s a few people in The Bayou that are still thinking about you.”

Moore’s firing shook the college football world, and Michigan athletics director Warde Manuel confirmed the decision was with cause. A university investigation found evidence of an inappropriate relationship between Moore and a staff member, which violated the terms of his contract and school policy. As a result, he was out as head coach.

Now, the search is on for his replacement, and Underwood’s future is front-and-center. On3’s Pete Nakos provided an update on the former Five Star Plus+ prospect’s situation, including details of his NIL deal at Michigan.

Bryce Underwood showed flashes through his first year at UM in 2025, earning the starting job during preseason practice. He completed 61.1% of his passes for 2,229 yards and nine touchdowns, to six interceptions. He also ran for 323 yards and five touchdowns on the ground as the Wolverines went 9-3 during the regular season.

One of Underwood’s biggest games of his freshman year came in October as Michigan took down Washington. He completed 21 of 27 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns as he went up against another top young Big Ten quarterback in the Huskies’ Demond Williams. UM won that game, 24-7.
