Urban Meyer demands Florida, Penn State make home run hires: 'I don't give a shit what it costs'

Urban Meyer is all about Florida and Penn State paying whatever it takes to hire a new head coach, if it’s a home run hire of course. With the way the programs are set up, Meyer said there should be no limit.
Well, he had a NSFW statement on the matter anyway. If there’s no limit to a price, let’s play with a hypothetical scenario for a second. One has to wonder what Meyer’s number is to come back to coaching?
All jokes aside, Penn State and Florida paid hefty buyouts to fire James Franklin and Billy Napier, respectively. Penn State is on the doorstep, or was, for a national championship. Florida has the resources, seemingly, and they have to nail the next hire in order to get back to the top, like when Meyer led them there nearly 20 years ago.
“You’re Penn State and you’re Florida, those are the two big dogs right now. You better hire a home run,” Meyer said on The Triple Option. “I don’t give a shit what it costs. You better do it … I mean, there’s no fiscal … Pay them, because if you win, then it’s all good. But obviously, if you lose, it’s all good too, because I just pay them off I guess.”
Penn State is paying nearly $50 million to have Franklin not coach them the rest of the way, while Florida’s buyout for Napier is just over $20 million. Some of the popular names to be linked to the jobs are Matt Rhule for Penn State and Lane Kiffin and Eli Drinkwitz for Florida.

Mike Elko was another name thrown out there for Penn State, given his northeastern ties. But, the Texas A&M coach practically laughed it off.
“I don’t discuss it with my players,” Elko said. “I think it’s absolutely hilarious how you guys covers coaches. I think three weeks ago, I was getting fired — now, I’m getting hired. Now, you don’t want me to stay but I’m leaving. It’s absolutely hilarious. It is a waste of brain space to spend any time talking or thinking about any of that stupidity.”
Meyer thinks either school can break the bank, but it’s a matter if Penn State or Florida will do in order to land a big fish. There’s quite a bit of time between now and the end of the regular season. Not to mention if either school goes after a coach that makes the College Football Playoff.
