Urban Meyer, Mark Ingram predict what coaching decision Lane Kiffin will make

With rivalry weekend fast approaching the end of the regular season is near. And with that comes a likely host of moves made on the coaching carousel. Perhaps the biggest? Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin will have the chance to go to Florida or LSU, reportedly. He could also remain at Ole Miss, where he has the Rebels in line for a College Football Playoff berth.

The Triple Option podcast, which is co-hosted by former Florida and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and former Alabama running back Mark Ingram, opined on where he might end up. Opinions were split for some, but others saw a clear path.

“He’s in Baton Rouge,” Ingram said. “I don’t like Baton Rouge. I don’t like LSU either.”

Meyer was quick to chime in behind Ingram about Lane Kiffin to LSU. He also sees that as the most likely outcome at this point.

“That’s kind of what I’m hearing too,” Meyer said. The two then went a little more in-depth.

It’s not that Florida is no longer in it or never had a shot. Quite the opposite, according to the duo.

“I heard it was Florida, that was before LSU opened,” Ingram said. “Listen, LSU is a program who is not playing. They’re going to throw the kitchen sink at whoever they want and try to get him there.

“You’ve got the governor, he knows where all the money in the state is. He’s got all the head honchos in the state ponying up. And LSU wants to get back to being at the top of college football, and they’re not going to hold nothing back in order to do that. They’re going to give everything they’ve got, and they’re doing it. I think Lane ends up in Bayou Bengals.”

Meyer seemed to loosely agree that was the probable destination for Lane Kiffin. He didn’t dive as much into that, though, as he did on Kiffin’s decision-making process.

“I’m going to say this: I don’t think it has anything to do with money,” Meyer said. “I think it has to do with winning. I think right now he’s putting together… now is his chance, and it was supposed to be what was it $20.5 million or something, they say it’s nonsense there’s so much of the same stuff going on with name and likeness. I think he’s just negotiating the most expensive roster for the next five, six, seven years.”

To some extent, Lane Kiffin’s negotiating power right now gives him the direct keys to his success wherever he chooses over the next few years. He can command a high figure when it comes to NIL to give to a roster.

Enough to become a powerhouse in one fell swoop, potentially. Meyer suggested that’s a far bigger factor for Lane Kiffin than personal salary.

“One school offers you $14 (million), you get an offer at $13,” Meyer said. “That just means more to charity, more to your children, that’s fine. But I think I know Lane well enough that this is not about that. This is about winning the national title, what’s going to put him in the best position to win that. Only he can figure that out.”
