University of Virginia running back Mike Hollins was one of the victims wounded in Sunday night’s tragic shooting on the UVA campus. Former Virginia walk-on running back Chris Jones is the culprit of the shooting, which has taken the lives of three and injured two others.

According to the Washington Post, the father of Hollins, Michael Hollins Jr., confirmed that his son was wounded in the incident. He told the Washington Post that his son was shot in the back and a bullet was lodged in his stomach, but that he was in stable condition on Monday morning.

“The doctors said he’s going to recover,” the elder Hollins said. “They said because of his age and physical condition, he’s doing exceptionally well.”

Three victims have been confirmed as of the time of this writing: linebacker D’Sean Perry and wide receivers Lavel Davis and Devin Chandler. UVA president Jim Ryan said in a news conference at 11:00 a.m. ET that two others were wounded.

Hollins is in his fourth season at Virginia. Through nine games this season, he has rushed 53 times for 215 yards and two touchdowns, and he has added eight receptions for 114 additional yards.

Students around the UVA campus were instructed to shelter in place on Sunday night into Monday morning. That order was lifted at 10:33 a.m. ET on Monday, according to the UVA Emergency Management Twitter account. Shortly thereafter, it was announced that Chris Jones has been taken into custody.

Additional details were revealed as part of the news conference, including the charges that are being brought against Jones. After being reviewed by a judicial officer, the charges against Jones are set to include three counts of second-degree murder and three counts of using a handgun in commission of a felony.

The tragic shooting occurred on a charter bus, which was on its way back to the UVA campus after a school activity and meal.

“The bodies of Devin and D’Sean, as President Ryan indicated, were found inside a charter bus, where they had been for the day, enjoying a school activity, having a meal together, and then coming back to our Grounds and someone amongst them chose to do an act of violence,” UVA Police Chief Tim Longo said.

“We found them dead inside that bus.”

Classes were canceled at UVA on Monday, as was the men’s basketball game scheduled for Monday night.
