The University of Virginia community was hit with terrible news late on Sunday night, as multiple individuals were killed and more were injured in a tragic shooting. Information on the victims has continued to emerge throughout the day on Monday, and Virginia wide receiver Devin Chandler has now been reported as the third known victim.

Oliver Hodgkinson reported the news of Chandler being a victim.

Chandler played two seasons at Wisconsin in 2020 and 2021 before transferring to Virginia ahead of this season. With the Badgers, he primarily returned kicks but had a role on offense as well. In the first two years of his collegiate career, Chandler returned ten kickoffs for 241 yards, averaging 24.1 yards per return. He also had two receptions for 28 yards and one rushing attempt for 18 yards as a freshman in 2020.

In addition to Chandler, UVA linebacker D’Sean Perry and wide receiver Lavel Davis were also killed in the shooting on Sunday night.

Former UVA football walk-on running back Chris Jones is the believed culprit of the unthinkable act. At the time of this writing, Jones is still at large and being searched for by law enforcement.

Initially, University of Virginia president Jim Ryan said that there are believed to be three fatalities and two additional injuries in the shooting. He revealed that information as part of a long, devastating message he sent to the UVA community early on Monday morning.

“As of this writing, I am heartbroken to report that the shooting has resulted in three fatalities; two additional victims were injured and receiving medical care,” Ryan said. …

“This is a message any leader hopes never to have to send, and I am devastated that this violence has visited the University of Virginia. This is a traumatic incident for everyone in our community, and we have cancelled classes for today (Monday, Nov. 14).”
