Vanderbilt at South Carolina: Friday injury report revealed

SEC play kicks off for both No. 11 South Carolina and Vanderbilt Saturday afternoon, two teams that have opened the season 2-0 and share a common opponent.
Carolina opened the season with a 24-11 win over Virginia Tech in Atlanta. The Gamecocks led 10-8 heading into the fourth quarter but a Vicari Swain 80-yard punt return gave Shane Beamer‘s team some cushion. Vanderbilt‘s 44-20 drumming of the Hokies in Blacksburg last Saturday was a more through defeat, as the Commodores outscored them 44-10 over the final three quarters to earn the win.
Ahead of Saturday’s game, the SEC released a new league availability report Friday:
No. 11 South Carolina Gamecocks
DB Judge Collier – OUT
Vanderbilt Commodores
DL Yilanan Ouattara – QUESTIONABLE
Other than their shared opponent in Virginia Tech, South Carolina rolled South Carolina State 38-10 last Saturday while Vanderbilt opened its season with a 45-3 win over Charleston Southern. This game holds massive implications for both programs, as a Gamecock win could propel them into the top-10 of the AP Poll for the first time since Aug. 2014 and a Commodore win could propel them into the top-25.
It’s been a strong start offensively for the Vanderbilt offense, led by 2024 SEC Newcomer of the Year quarterback Diego Pavia. The ‘Dores are averaging 485.5 yards (5th most in SEC) and 44.5 points (6th most in SEC) through two games this season, but their defense has been even more impressive. Vanderbilt currently leads the SEC in yards allowed per game (191.5) and rank eighth in the SEC in points allowed per game (11.5).
This bodes well for Clark Lea‘s team, as Carolina has been extremely disappointing offensively through two games. Although Heisman Trophy contender LaNorris Sellers leads the offense, they are averaging just 290.5 yards per game (last in SEC). Sellers has been tame through two weeks, passing for just 337 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
South Carolina dominated last year in Nashville
Although Vanderbilt has been on a good run this season, that hasn’t stopped them from slipping up against South Carolina recently. Last season, the Commodores entered their Nov. 9 home matchup against Carolina with a 6-3 record (with all three losses coming by four points or less). In Nashville, the Gamecocks handed them their worst loss of the season by score of 28-7.
Vandy cut into the Carolina lead and made it a 14-7 game early in the third quarter, but the ‘Cocks rattled off 14 unanswered to secure the three-touchdown win. Shane Beamer and his staff will be looking to achieve that same result on Saturday, this time in Columbia.
