Virginia QB Anthony Colandrea plans to enter transfer portal
Virginia quarterback Anthony Colandrea plans to enter the transfer portal, sources tell On3. The sophomore will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Colandrea has thrown for 4,083 yards in the last two seasons, posting 26 touchdowns along with a 62.2% completion percentage. The quarterback has also rushed for 502 career yards and two touchdowns.
The 6-foot, 183-pound quarterback played in eight games as a true freshman, setting program records for a freshman quarterback in 2023 with 2,183 total yards of offense and 154 completions. His 1,958 yards passing also ranked first among power-conference freshmen. He saw playing time as a true freshman with Tony Muskett dealing with various injuries.
Colandrea got the start as a sophomore, helping Virginia win four of its first five games. He struggled in the back half of the season and was sacked 39 times this year He did not start against Virginia Tech on Saturday, with Muskett getting the start.

The Cavaliers finish the 2024 season with a 5-7, failing to become bowl eligible and win six games. Tony Elliott will enter his fourth season at Virginia with just six ACC wins. Colandrea’s exit will leave Virginia with questions at the quarterback position, with Muskett’s eligibility now up.
The transfer portal officially opens on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25% of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year.
