WATCH: Channing Crowder keeps it real with Cam Newton after quarterback's bold claim

Cam Newton made a testy appearance on the Pivot Podcast recently. During his Tuesday appearance on the show, members of the podcast asked him about his stature as a starting quarterback in the NFL. The former Panther signal caller responded strongly: “There’s not 32 guys better than me.”
Channing Crowder, a former Florida linebacker who played six seasons with the Miami Dolphins before retiring in 2010, then countered Newton’s bravado and gave him a look of uncertainty.
“Cam?” Crowder questioned of the statement’s legitimacy. “You are big as **** … Bro, you are a defensive end playing quarterback. … But right now, you are 33 years old. You done got old. … [You’re saying] you’re one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world right now? Cam, I cannot accept that.”
But Newton stood by his claim, repeating “on my soul” three times in a row following Crowder’s pushback.
You can watch the entire clip here:
It takes some guts to stand up to the former MVP quarterback and tell him to his face that he’s no longer a starting quarterback in the NFL.
Despite the disagreement of the Pivot Podcast, Cam Newton still believes he’s one of the 32 best quarterbacks in the world and should have a job heading into next season.
Panthers willing to bring back Cam Newton as potential backup on smaller salary
The Carolina Panthers are willing to invite quarterback Cam Newton back for another season, according to a report from the Charlotte Observer. However, he would not enter camp as the starter and would be required to take a smaller salary.

Newton certainly has a lot of history with the Panthers after spending the first nine years of his NFL career in Carolina. His best season came in 2015, when he won the MVP after finishing with 3,837 yards passing and 45 total touchdowns. The Panthers finished that year with a 15-1 record before falling in the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos. Newton is still the franchise’s all-time leading passer with 29,725 yards and 186 touchdowns.
Despite the massive history of success, Carolina opted to cut Newton following an injury-shortened 2019 season. He eventually landed with the New England Patriots, spending one year as the starter in Boston before being released in August 2021.
When Panthers starting quarterback Sam Darnold went down this past season with injury, the franchise brought back Cam Newton on a one-year deal with $4.5 million guaranteed. He made five starts as Carolina finished with an 0-5 record in those games. Newton ended the year with 684 yards passing, four touchdowns and five interceptions.
Now at 33, Newton appears well past his prime. He has struggled to prove his worth as a starter with both the Panthers and Patriots, but could serve as a mentor for younger players on the roster.
