Saturday night, LSU will play its first game since a home loss to Texas A&M. Plenty has changed since then, and the matchup at Alabama will mark the first game since Brian Kelly’s firing as head coach.

Ahead of the rivalry game, though, LSU linebacker West Weeks had a message. He implored his teammates to go out fighting – especially since they have a chance to “ruin” Alabama’s season on Saturday.

ESPN’s Molly McGrath said Weeks told the broadcast crew LSU has a new energy under interim head coach Frank Wilson, stemming from more physical practices. With that, the Tigers know they don’t have anything to lose the rest of the way. As a result, they have an opportunity to play spoiler.

“In their first team meeting after Brian Kelly’s firing, LSU players told each other, ‘This season can now go one of two ways. We can give up and be forgotten, or we can be the team that comes back from all of this adversity and shocks everyone,'” McGrath reported during halftime of Texas A&M at Missouri.

“Veteran linebacker West Weeks is determined to make this rivalry game a statement game, telling us, ‘We have nothing to lose and Alabama has everything to lose. … Let’s go ruin their season.’ Weeks said this locker room is tighter than ever and said they’re re-energized by all the physicality that they have been practicing with this week.”

LSU’s Week 9 loss to Texas A&M marked the Tigers’ third of the year, meaning they are effectively out of the College Football Playoff race. But Alabama is still very much in the mix and heads into Saturday’s primetime matchup in the midst of a seven-game win streak.

Considering LSU’s situation, though, Ty Simpson’s message to his teammates centered around not overlooking the Tigers. He knows it won’t be an easy matchup as LSU looks to prove itself after Kelly’s departure, which is why he said there’s so much at stake.

“Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson warned his teammates about this, saying, ‘A team with nothing to lose is dangerous. Expect them to throw everything at us. We’re going to see trick plays, zero blitz and lots of pressure,'” McGrath reported. “Simpson called this game a legacy game because it can change the course of both of these teams’ seasons.”

All eyes will be on Bryant Denny Stadium on Saturday as Alabama and LSU square off. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
