What to make of Oregon 5-star QB commit Dante Moore's interest in UCLA

Detroit Martin Luther King five-star quarterback Dante Moore committed to Oregon on July 8. However, UCLA is making a strong push for Moore, who took an official visit to the Bruins last weekend.
According to Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports, Moore is intrigued by the opportunity to see the field early at UCLA. Meanwhile, Bo Nix may return to Oregon next year, which is “something else Dante’s pondering.”
“Coming off his official visit to UCLA, I think the opportunity to come in and be a first day starter is really exciting,” Wiltfong said. “To play for a coach like Chip Kelly and the pedigree he has with the quarterback position, to go play for a program that had the nation’s No. 10 scoring offense, No. 3 total offense and a balanced attack that was No. 4 in the nation in rushing offense (is exciting).”
Wiltfong shared that the Ducks are still working hard to keep Moore committed, but “Oregon maybe feels a little bit different to him” following the departure of offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham. Moore also may be affected by the Bruins’ move to the Big Ten. UCLA will play roughly half its games around Detroit and the Midwest starting in 2024.

“It’s obvious that the Pac-12 has lagged behind, from top-to-bottom, when comparing it to the other programs and looking at the NFL Draft,” Wiltfong said. “And so, I think, first of all, UCLA is showing that they are on an upward trajectory this year. Having a 9-3 season and playing in some big ball games certainly helps with that. And then, going into what is probably widely considered a more prestigious football league certainly will help as well.”
Dante Moore On3 Scouting Summary
The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Dante Moore:
“Pocket passer who is one of the more accurate and efficient quarterbacks in the 2023 cycle. Skilled as a touch passer with the ability to layer throws and deliver with accuracy and nuance. Has a quick, natural release that aids in the short passing and RPO game. Shows a good arm both on video and in camp settings. Capable of hitting on deep shots off of play action.
“Put together a highly efficient and productive junior season in leading Martin Luther King to a state title while completing 73 percent of his passes for over 3,000 yards and 40 touchdowns against three interceptions. Does not appear to be quite the athlete or run threat as some of the other top quarterbacks in the cycle at this time. Will need to continue improving his movement skills and foot quickness.”
Moore is the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 4 quarterback in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in Michigan.
