FirstBank Stadium is growing accustomed to hosting big-time matchups. This will be up there when it comes to the pregame hype, as the No. 17 Vanderbilt Commodores host the 10th-ranked LSU Tigers. Just another great opportunity for Clark Lea‘s program, looking for revenge after losing last year’s tilt in Baton Rouge.

Before taking the field, there are some injuries both teams are dealing with. Wednesday brought the first SEC injury report of the week. At least two more are expected before Saturday’s kick, being released on Thursday and Friday night.

No. 10 LSU Tigers

  • WR Aaron Anderson – PROBABLE
  • DE Jimari Butler – QUESTIONABLE
  • DL Bernard Gooden – DOUBTFUL
  • OL Paul Mubenga – PROBABLE
  • DE Gabriel Reliford – OUT
  • LB Whit Weeks – QUESTIONABLE

No. 17 Vanderbilt Commodores

Kickoff from Nashville is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET. Ranked matchups always provide a little drama, especially early in the college football Saturday slate. Hopefully, something similar is able to play out between these two.

Brian Kelly reveals latest on LSU wide receiver Aaron Anderson

LSU got the job done at home vs. South Carolina but without one of its top weapons. Anderson watched the Tigers win from the sideline, missing his first game of the season. Head coach Brian Kelly revealed it’s a knee issue bothering Anderson, something they need to heal in order to reach full potential.

The SEC Coaches Teleconference gave Kelly an outlet to provide an update on where Anderson stands going into Vanderbilt. His status became official on Wednesday but Kelly revealed Anderson is on the right track.

“He went the entire day,” Kelly said. “His player load is good, we kind of monitor those things for our wide receivers… But he is in practice this week so we expect him to do a nice job for us.”

As for who might wind up covering Anderson, Lea broke down the health of a few secondary players. The Commodores had a bye week following the Alabama loss, giving them extra time to recover.

“In terms of health, I mean Marlon Jones and Mark Davis ended up not playing against Alabama,” Lea pointed out. “Kolbey (Taylor) just cramped, so he’s fine.”

Lea went on to say Davis holds a good chance of being ready to go. Jones did not practice on Tuesday due to the ongoing hamstring issue. Not doing any football-related work puts a pause on his status past the initial injury report.
