Joe Tipton Breaking Down What Has Gone Wrong For Arkansas In 2023-24 | 01.18.24

While they may be rivals on the basketball court, Arkansas’ Eric Musselman, Kansas’ coach Bill Self, K-State’s Jerome Tang and Mizzou’s Dennis Gates are teammates in the battle against cancer.

The four coaches teamed with vintage clothing company Charlie Hustle for the Coaches vs. Cancer Collection. As part of the partnership, the coaches waived their personal licensing fee and are donating 25% of the proceeds back to Coaches vs Cancer – the nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches that raises funds to beat cancer.

“Coaches vs Cancer is something that has been very important to my wife and I during our time here at Arkansas,” Musselman told On3. “We are excited to partner with Charlie Hustle to help raise funds for this amazing cause.”

Musselman and his wife, Danyelle Musselman, have been very vocal about their family’s battle against cancer over the years. Musselman’s mother-in-law, Theresa Cruz, has been in remission for more than 16 years. Both Musselman and his wife have worked hard on raising funds for the American Cancer Society through the Suits and Sneakers event that’s expanded to a nationwide initiative.

Coaches helped design Charlie Hustle shirts

Each coach was involved in the design process. Plus, this is the first-ever custom shirt for Tang and Gates. A Charlie Hustle spokesperson said they worked hard with the coaches to “capture their spirit and likeness.”

The shirts are available on Charlie Hustle’s website for $40 each. The Bill Self T-shirt features the “Self Driven” motto, while “Tang Time” is on Tang’s shirt. Gates’ shirt features the “Golden Gates” tagline and Musselman’s has the “Hop on the Muss Buss” slogan.

“This idea had been sort of manifesting for a couple of years now, but it takes strong coordination to make all the moving parts come together to create the kind of impact we know something like this can bring,” Charlie Hustle founder/CEO Chase McAnulty told On3.

“We’re very excited and grateful for the opportunity to showcase these four coaches and celebrate them in a playful manner while doing a lot of good at the same time. It’s the very ethos of our brand purpose, which is to evoke happiness within the company, our customers and throughout the community that has supported us so well over the years.”

To further spark sales – for a good cause – Charlie Hustle is having a competition on social media to see which coach and fanbase can raise the most money for Coaches vs. Cancer. There will be daily updates and at the end of the week, one coach will be crowned the winner of the competition.
