44-year-old Colts QB Philip Rivers throws touchdown pass vs. Seahawks
Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers is proving that age is just a number, as the 44-year-old threw a touchdown pass on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. Rivers, who played in his first game since the 2020 season, threw a seven-yard TD pass to wide receiver Josh Downs to give the Colts the 13-3 lead late in the second quarter.
Philip Rivers nearly led the Colts to a big win over the Seahawks. But Seattle kicker Jason Myers kicked a 56-yard field goal with 22 seconds remaining in the game to give the Seahawks the 18-16 victory.
Rivers finished the day with 120 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception with a passer rating of 73.1. That’s not bad considering his last game was on Jan. 9, 2021, when he threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns in a Colts playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. Rivers joined the team this past week after Daniel Jones went down with an Achilles injury.
With Rivers being on he active roster, his quest to reach the Pro Football Hall of Fame will be delayed. He was one of 26 semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026, but he now won’t be eligibile to reach Canton, Ohio until the Class of 2031.

Philip Rivers can wait on the Pro Football Hall of Fame
“It’s a real honor to be mentioned with those other 25 guys, certainly,” Rivers said on Wednesday, per JJ Stankevitz of Colts.com. “But that’s just not — I’m not holding my breath on that, and I hadn’t been counting down the years. And with all respect to the Hall, and if one day I could be a part of that group it would be special, no question about it. But the extension of that time, if it comes to be, was not a factor in my thinking.”
River will reach the Hall of Fame once his playing career (finally) ends. Before this season, the former NC State star was sixth all-time in passing touchdowns (421), seventh in passing yards (63,440), and ninth in completions (5,277).
