Alex Bowman fires back at rumors after Spire announcement
Today, perhaps no one was more vindicated by the Rick Ware and Spire Motorsports announcement than Alex Bowman. Rumors were swirling that Justin Haley would somehow take Bowman’s ride from him next NASCAR season.
Well, now we know that isn’t going to happen. Justin Haley is replacing Corey LaJoie at Spire Motorsports next season. In fact, the two drivers are being traded starting next week for the rest of the season between their respective teams.
So, with that news, Bowman feels pretty good about himself. He kept telling people that he had a ride next year and was not worried about losing the one he is in right now. Turns out, he was right.
“Pretty much, you didn’t listen to me,” Alex Bowman said, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “I told you guys nothing was changing and imagine that, nothing changed. So, yeah, everything’s good.”
During the summer months, it was starting to be popular to believe Alex Bowman was on the hot seat. Haley’s name popped up specifically in those rumors and murmurs. However, like most things in racing, winning cures all.
Taking the checkered flag at Chicago was major. But there were still rumors after that. Only one top-5 in his last seven races hasn’t helped, at least if you only look at the final results.
Bowman is currently the top Hendrick driver in the playoffs. He has a bigger cushion on the cutline than any of his teammates, and that is because he has picked up points and kept a clean car. Bowman enters Bristol fourth overall in the points standings.

Alex Bowman proving doubters wrong
Coming into Bristol +41 is a great cushion. Alex Bowman collected points in Atlanta and Watkins Glen and is sitting pretty at the moment. Good news for Bowman, he has a pretty good track record at Bristol as well.
While Bowman has no wins at the Last Great Colosseum, he was P4 earlier this season. Last fall, he finished a respectable P13. He has more or less held his own at the track, and should, barring a major incident, be able to transfer to the Round of 12.
Hendrick Motorsports has high expectations. Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott are both champions. William Byron led the Cup Series in wins last season. It is time for Bowman to make a deep run and prove he is a driver capable of making a Championship 4.
Alex Bowman has proved the doubters wrong. So far. But he is going to have to win more races, perform at a high level, and… well, keep doing what he’s doing. It has worked so far.
