Two NFL insiders shared an update on New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara, who suffered a knee injury on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. According to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Kamara suffered a knee sprain and will have an MRI to “determine the full extent.”

Alvin Kamara suffered the injury in the first quarter after his right leg got twisted. He was sent to the team’s medical tent before the Saints ruled him out for the rest of the game.

“We’ll have to let that go through this process,” Saints head coach Kellen Moore said after the game, per ESPN. “He obviously wasn’t able to return. We’ll have to get the full evaluation tomorrow and get a feel for that and see what this outline looks like.”

Kamara finished the day with 11 rushing yards on three carries and two catches for four yards. The Saints went on to fall to the Falcons 24-10 to drop to 2-9 on the year.

Through 11 games this season, Kamara has rushed for 471 yards and one touchdown. The former Tennessee star has also caught 33 passes for 186 yards. Kamara has spent his entire career with the Saints (drafted by the team in 2017) and has tallied at least 1,100 yards from scrimmage each season.

“Obviously, one of the premier players in our league,” Moore said of Kamara when he was hired as the Saints’ head coach earlier this year, per NFL.com. “His ability to play in the pass game, in the run game, all the different versatile roles that he can play. A lot of people for a long time have been looking, ‘How can we find an Alvin on our football team?’ So that’s been a really important piece. He’ll continue to be a really important piece, and we’re really fortunate to have him.”

Kamara, who is the Saints’ all-time leading rusher, is signed with the team through the 2026 season. Last year, the Atlanta native signed a two-year contract extension worth $24.5 million.
