Brian Robinson explains why he is 'the king of adversity,' how it transformed him
Just over five weeks since Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson was shot in a robbery attempt, he has returned to practice and is on track to return to action this season.
The former Alabama Crimson Tide standout discussed his comeback with media on Tuesday, noting that this isn’t the first time Robinson had to climb an uphill battle in his lifetime.
“I guess I’m the king of adversity,” Robinson said. “I’ve been dealt with so much adversity in my life, I’ve just got to be stronger than what I’m up against. I’ve had my tests, just having to be away from ball, being away from the organization for a little while, to just kind of get myself together. The time was when was needed.”
Late in the offseason, Robinson was shot twice during an armed Robbert attempt, which he thankfully survived. Prior, he was on his way to becoming the primary ball carrier for the Washington Commanders, which is no small feat to accomplish as a rookie.
After being placed on the non-football injury list and missing the first couple weeks of the season, a return — and debut — could be in the near future for Robinson. On Monday, he was taken off the list, and will now look to trend toward playing in the coming weeks.

Through it all, Robinson never wavered. Two weeks after his accident, he was spotted back in the Commanders practice facility and was seen doing drills the following day. Less than a month later and he’s already back on the practice field in a larger capacity than originally expected.
Robinson’s status for Sunday’s game against is still set as NFI-R (non football injury – reserve). When that gets tagged next to a players name, they’re unable to participate in games or practices for the first six weeks of the season.
If Robinson gets the green light to suit up after the six-game layoff, his first opportunity back on the football field will come against the Green Bay Packers at home on Oct. 23.
