Bryce Young kept a piece of the NFL Draft stage

Hearing your name called during the NFL Draft isn’t something many players will forget. It’s a life-altering moment, with dreams turning into reality. But if memory isn’t enough, Bryce Young and a few other rookies have a special keepsake to remember the big day.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Young said the Lowe’s gifted he and other rookies a box with a piece of the stage. The company helped assemble the structure for this year’s NFL Draft, held in Kansas City.

“I’m super grateful to be partnering with Lowe’s and super grateful for what they’ve done for me and for all the rookies,” Young said. “Being able to have not just the thought and the memory, but the physical part of the stage is really surreal.”

Young was selected No. 1 overall by the Carolina Panthers. He enjoyed a stellar career at Alabama and catapulted to the top of draft boards following the 2022 season.

While you might think Young has a special spot set out in his own home for the commemorative item, he actually has other plans.

“I think I’m going to keep it at my parents’ [house],” he told PEOPLE. “They keep all of the awards and stuff that’s really memorable to us,” he explains of his mom Julie and his dad Craig Young. “They have a place ready for it, so I think it’ll be there.”

Bryce Young bringing ‘swagger’ to Carolina

Making a strong first impression isn’t always the easiest thing to do for a rookie in the NFL. But Young seems to be turning some heads early in Carolina.

Panthers safety Xavier Woods likes what Young brings from an attitude standpoint. Though he hasn’t played in any games yet, he’s an incredibly confident quarterback.

“Just the swagger. Just his persona. How he carries [himself]. Just not only in the weight room, but on the practice field. Man, he’s got that solid swagger. You can definitely tell that he knows that he’s top tier. But he’s humble with it, man,” Woods said.

Young started each of the last two seasons for the Crimson Tide. He ended his career with 8,356 passing yards with 80 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Who wouldn’t be confident with those numbers?

But doing it in the NFL is a completely different challenge. But Woods said the young quarterback seems ready.

“Being a first-round draft pick, it’s gonna come with a lot of expectations and whatnot,” Woods said. “But I’m pretty sure he knows that he can carry it, just in the way he carries himself and it shows.”
