Buffalo Bills interview offensive coordinator Joe Brady for head coaching vacancy
The Buffalo Bills have completed an interview with offensive coordinator Joe Brady for its head coaching vacancy, the team announced. Buffalo fired former head coach Sean McDermott after the Bills’ loss to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional round.
The Bills’ in-house interview is the first for Buffalo in its search to fill the spot. This comes roughly 48 hours after the franchise announced it was moving on from McDermott after nine seasons. Additionally, Brady has reportedly set up and interview for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching vacancy as well.
Brady has been the Bills’ full-time offensive coordinator since Jan. 2024, but had been serving as the interim OC since Nov. 2023. In two full seasons calling plays, the Bills rank second in the NFL in points per game (30.6), including a 28.3 points per game scoring averaging in 2025 (tied for third most).
Before joining McDermott’s staff in 2022 as QB coach, he served as the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers from 2020-2021. This came after a one-year stint at LSU in 2019 where he served as the team’s passing game coordinator & wide receivers coach, notably coaching Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson during their undefeated, national championship-winning season.

He’s been highly regarded since joining the Bills. However, Buffalo decided they needed a change at the top before the 2026-27 season. In the end, McDermott finished his tenure in Buffalo with a 98-50 record overall. He went 8-8 in the playoffs during that time. Bills owner Terry Pegula released a statement on the decision.
“Sean has done an admirable job of leading our football team for the past 9 seasons,” said Owner Terry Pegula. “But I feel we are in need of a new structure within our leadership to give this organization the best opportunity to take our team to the next level. We owe that to our players and to Bills Mafia.”
“Sean helped change the mindset of this organization and was instrumental in the Bills becoming a perennial playoff team. I respect all the work, loyalty and attention to detail he showed for this team and the community. I wish Sean, Jamie and his family all the best.
