Carolina Panthers announce two-year contract extension for RT Taylor Moton

The Carolina Panthers and star right tackle Taylor Moton reached an agreement on a two-year, $44 million contract on Friday, the organization announced. Moton has been with the Panthers since they selected him with the No. 64 overall pick in the Second Round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Moton has been a staple of the Panthers’ O-line for many seasons. He is now tied to the organization through the 2027 season.
The new deal makes Moton the third-highest-paid right tackle in the NFL. He is tied for third with Green Bay Packers RT Zach Tom ($22 million per year) and is behind just Philadelphia Eagles RT Lane Johnson ($25 million per year) and Detroit Lions RT Penei Sewell ($28 million per year).
“I’ll never forget when I got that phone call from a 704 number,” Moton said in a video the Panthers posted Friday morning. “I’ve had some of my best years here in Carolina. So much sacrifice out on that football field. I put so much time and so much heart into it. I have a deep passion for this city, for this organization and all of the guys in the locker room. All the staff and everyone involved in making this thing go.

Moton was a three-star recruit coming out of Okemos (Okemos, MI) in the Class of 2012, where he was tabbed the No. 2,199-ranked player in the country. He committed to Western Michigan, where he’d play from 2012-2016. As a Bronco, he set a school record with 52 starts at the right tackle position and was a pivotal part of Western Michigan’s best team in program history (Went 13-1 in 2016 and reached the Cotton Bowl Classic).
Of the 64 players selected in the first two rounds of the 2017 NFL Draft, Moton is just one of nine players that is still with their original team (without playing somewhere else).

- QB Patrick Mahomes (Round 1, Pick 10 to Kansas City Chiefs)
