DeMarcus Lawrence injury update: Dallas Cowboys release Wednesday practice report

The Dallas Cowboys (1-2) have released their Wednesday injury report ahead of Thursday’s Week 4 road contest against the New York Giants (1-2).
Dallas came out of Sunday’s 28-25 Week 3 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens (1-2) a little banged up, with receiver CeeDee Lamb (ankle), cornerback Trevon Diggs (foot) and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence (shoulder) all popping up on Monday’s injury report. All three remain on Wednesday’s report, with Lawrence upgraded to full participation. Lamb and Diggs were full participants for the third consecutive day.
The rest of the injury report includes defensive tackle Mazi Smith (back, full), tight end John Stephens (hamstring, full), safety Markquese Bell (ankle, doubtful) and cornerback Caelen Carson (shoulder, doubtful). Cornerback C.J. Goodwin sat out due to personal reasons.
Head coach Mike McCarthy said Tuesday that Bell and Carson would both be game-time decisions against the Giants.
“Getting better, getting better,” McCarthy said. “Both will be a game-time decision, but Carson is closer.”

DeMarcus Lawrence, several Cowboys dealing with injuries
The Cowboys certainly need Carson, the 2024 fifth round pick, in the lineup. Starting outside corner Daron Bland is on injured reserve with a foot fracture, leaving a massive hole in Dallas’ secondary. The Cowboys’ defense has been shredded through three games, allowing 372.7 yards per game and 29.7 points per game.
If Dallas has any hope of getting back in contention in the NFC, that must improve, and it must improve quickly. That starts with Thursday’s game against New York.
“I feel like a competitor, at some point you’ve got to be prideful enough to say, ‘I’m not going to allow this to happen to me,'” star linebacker Micah Parsons said Tuesday. “I just feel like some people are just allowing them to keep getting smacked in the face. Like, when are you going to stand up?”
