Dez Bryant on controversial Kyle Juszczyk OT catch: 'That's not a catch'

San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk made one of the catches of Super Bowl LVIII with 9:15 remaining in overtime, though Dez Bryant has some objection to it.

That’s because of the controversial nature of Juszczyk’s snag, in which he lost possession of the ball as he hit the ground. Sound familiar to the infamous 2014 NFC Divisional Game in which Bryant’s incredible haul was ruled a catch before being reversed to a no catch?

Bryant remembers and made sure to remind everyone Sunday night.

“That’s not a catch,” Bryant wrote on X.

As a result of no-catch call against Bryant, the NFL revised the catch rule in 2018. The rules defining a catch are now as follows, per NFL.com.

1. Control of the ball.
   2. Two feet down or another body part.
   3. A football move such as:
      » A third step;
      » Reaching/extending for the line-to-gain;
      » Or the ability to perform such an act.

Eliminated from the previous rule was the “going-to-the-ground” element.

Juszczyk’s catch was the biggest catch of the game at the time, setting up a go-ahead field goal from kicker Jake Moody. That was trumped later on in the overtime period, when Chiefs receiver Mecole Hardman caught the game-winning touchdown from quarterback Patrick Mahomes to give Kansas City its second consecutive Super Bowl victory and third in the last five seasons. The Chiefs defeated the 49ers, 25-22.
