Adam Schefter: Micah Parsons is 'going to become the highest paid player in NFL history'

Micah Parsons is ready to sign a new contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Earlier this week, the star defender told team owner Jerry Jones to call his agent David Mulugheta and finalize the terms of a deal to make him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.
Will it get done sooner rather than later? ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes so. With training camp looming, the NFL analyst reported some new details regarding Parsons’ future in Dallas, and where the two sides currently stand on the matter.
“He’s going to become the highest paid player in National Football League history. The only question is when,” Schefter stated, via Get Up on Wednesday.. “He said he’d like to have that deal done in the next month. There already have been extensive conversations.
“… At some point in time, Micah Parsons is going to have a deal that tops the one that went to Maxx Crosby, that tops the one that went to Myles Garrett, and will give Dallas the highest paid defensive player in NFL history, to go along with the highest paid player in NFL history in Dak Prescott.”
As you can tell, Parsons will get his money, Schefter noted it’s a matter of when, not if. Still, his ESPN colleague Mike Tannenbaum believes this deal should’ve been done already, as the former NFL front office member is wondering what’s taking so long.

“Part of being a front office is being a great listener. When somebody like Micah Parsons checks the boxes of being a homegrown talent who’s productive, they never should leave,” Tannenbaum added. “You sit down with him and his agent and say, ‘What’s it going to take to get a deal done? What’s important to you?’ You listen, and then you execute. The market is not going down. The macroeconomics of the NFL are only going up. The market is only going up.
“What’s interesting to me is Jerry Jones, who’s a Hall of Fame business person, who made billions of dollars taking risks others wouldn’t — this is the exact opposite. He’s being ultra conservative, and I think at the end of the day, that has hurt them time and time again.”
Regardless, Micah Parsons will continue to be the flag bearer for the Dallas Cowboys, as it looks like he’s about to become an even richer man. With the star defender locked in, the franchise will be as dangerous as ever in the coming seasons, having Super Bowl aspirations. We’ll see if they can reach them.
