Grant DuBose injury: Tua Tagovailoa speaks out about play that led to scary hit, hospitalization

Following a scary hit on receiver Grant DuBose during Sunday’s game between the Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa admitted he was a little shaken up after the fact.
Tagovailoa threw the pass that ended in DuBose’s injury, leading him right into a safety, unfortunately.
Texans defensive back Calen Bullock applied the hit, and Grant DuBose would lay motionless on the turf for what seemed like an excruciatingly long time. It was several minutes before he was eventually stretchered off the field.
Tagovailoa opened up on the unfortunate play after the game.
“Very unfortunate. Very tough to have seen live,” Tagovailoa said, according to ESPN reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques. “I’m my toughest critic when it comes to ball placement … I just feel bad that I even put him in that situation to have gotten hit. It was tough to move on after that happened.”
Players gathered around Grant DuBose while he was down on the field, many of them saying prayers for him.

DuBose’s jersey had to be cut off and his facemask unscrewed as both teams huddled and prayed around him. A neck brace was placed around DuBose’s head, and the 23-year-old was taken away in an ambulance.
Grant DuBose was then transported to the Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston for further evaluation, the team announced.
Miami claimed DuBose, a 2023 seventh-round selection of the Green Bay Packers (9-4), off waivers on Aug. 28. Before entering the NFL, Grant DuBose was a star at Charlotte. In two seasons with the 49ers, he hauled in 126 receptions for 1,684 yards and 15 touchdowns.
