Jalen Ramsey accuses Ja'Marr Chase of spitting on him, leading to Steelers CB's ejection for punch

Jalen Ramsey claims that Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase spat on him Sunday, prompting a reaction that led to the Steelers defensive back being ejected, per Mike DeFabo of The Athletic. Ramsey was thrown out of the game in the fourth quarter for throwing a punch at Chase.
The punch came after the two players appeared to be exchanging some words with each other. This was a theme throughout Sunday’s matchup. Not too long before Ramsey’s ejection, he was involved in a pushing and shoving contest with Chase, in which both had to be separated from one another.
Chase was not ejected from the contest, so if he did spit on Ramsey, it managed to get past the eyes of officials. Perhaps some frustrations were boiling over from the receiver, who was held to just three catches for 30 yards on 10 targets.
The Steelers went on to win 34-12 as they improved to 6-4 on the season. We’ll have to wait and see whether the league decides to look into Ramsey’s claims any further. Chase was asked about Ramsey’s comments postgame and denied spitting on the Steelers DB.
“I never opened my mouth to that guy,” Chase said per Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic. “… I didn’t spit on nobody.”
However, video emerged soon after that contradicted those claims from Chase. Austin Briski of FOX 19 in Cincinnati posted a clip of the incident that appeared to show Chase spitting toward Ramsey.

Weirdly enough, this isn’t the first time this season that an NFL player has supposedly spat on an opponent. Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was ejected during Week 1 after cameras caught him spitting on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Carter was fined $57,222 and given a one-game suspension as a result, but the NFL counted the suspension served since he was ejected within the first few minutes of the opening quarter.
Chase would likely receive a similar punishment if it can be proven that he did indeed spit on Ramsey. But as of this writing, the Bengals WR is sticking to his story that he is not guilty.
Sunday’s game was the third time this season that Chase has been held to 30 yards receiving or less. Cincinnati dropped to 3-7 with the loss and moves on to face the New England Patriots next week. Meanwhile, the Steelers will hope to continue rolling against the Chicago Bears.
