Jaydon Blue describes Brian Schottenheimer's energy as 'uplifting'

Cowboys fifth-round draft choice Jaydon Blue represented Dallas at the 2025 NFL rookie premier following this year’s draft event. It was the first look at the former Texas Longhorns running back in a Cowboys uniform.
During the event, Blue spoke with Kay Adams about his experiences during rookie minicamp, as well as his first impressions of the Cowboys organization. That includes his first few times meeting first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer. He left a glowing review of his new boss while speaking to the FanDuel TV host.
“I’ve loved him from day one when i got there,” Blue told Adams. “His energy, that’s a big thing in that facility. Man, they always have a lot of energy. … [It’s] uplifting. I could be — somebody could be having a bad day, and he come in, start screaming, excited. And I love coaches like that because it helps me. Like, I’m a big, energetic guy when it comes to football.
“So, having a coach that I can relate to like that, you know, it helps me be better. So, he’s a really great guy. I got a chance to sit down and talk to him, and I’m ready to get a chance to work with him.”
During the interview, Blue revealed that he never visited the Cowboys during his pre-draft process despite the proximity to the Longhorns. He was surprised when he received the call, but it appears the talented tailback believes he landed in the right place.

Blue spent three seasons at the collegiate level, proving himself as a potent dual-threat playmaker out of the backfield. He rushed for a career-high 730 yards on 134 carries along with eight touchdowns on the ground as a junior in 2024. He added 42 receptions for 368 yards and six additional touchdowns through the air during his final season on the Forty Acres.
While Blue didn’t finish among the top running backs in college football statistically in 2024, he proved himself to be an interesting prospect during the 2025 NFL Draft cycle. What really stood out about his pre-draft performances cam during his Pro Day. There, Blue recorded a 4.28 and 4.29 in his two 40-yard dash attempts.
He apparently impressed the Cowboys enough that they drafted him without working him out, or seeing him in person before the 2025 NFL Draft. Now, he’s set to compete for minutes in the Dallas backfield as he heads into his first NFL offseason.
