Jaydon Blue injury update: Dallas Cowboys RB leaves practice after entering medical tent

Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue left practice Thursday afternoon after suffering an apparent injury on a hard hit that sent him to the medical tent, according to the Dallas Morning News’ Joe Hoyt.
Blue, a fifth-round pick in April’s 2025 NFL Draft out of Texas, reportedly suffered the injury on a practice rep that resulted in a fumble.
The 5-foot-9, 196-pound Blue is part of a remodeled Dallas backfield that includes fellow newcomers Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, both signed as free agents this past offseason, and 2024 draft pick Deuce Vaughn, formerly of Kansas State.
Blue is coming off a career year with 730 rushing yards and a team-leading eight rushing touchdowns on 134 carries in his final season at Texas, where he was the Longhorns’ second-leading rusher last season behind 1,064-yard rusher Tre Wisner.
Blue wasn’t the only Cowboys player to leave the field Thursday afternoon, joining cornerback Christian Matthew who was carted off the field following his injury.
Since being drafted in 2022, Matthew has played for the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens and Cowboys. Matthew reportedly returned to the field shortly after being carted off it and began practicing again.
On Tuesday, quarterback Joe Milton left the Cowboys’ practice after suffering a hand injury. Milton reportedly hit his hand on a defender’s helmet. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer referred to the decision to pull Milton from the practice as a “precautionary measure.”

At the beginning of training camp, Cowboys offensive lineman Tyler Guyton suffered a bone fracture, which will require surgery. He is expected to be out for four to six weeks, but his ACL is intact. Despite the setbacks, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been happy with first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Marcus Spears reveals lofty expectations for Cowboys rookie RB Jaydon Blue
Entering the 2025 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys had a clear need at running back. They let it slide Thursday and Friday before taking Jaydon Blue in the fifth round out of Texas. A speedster in Steve Sarkisian‘s offense, Blue joins the Cowboys with a potentially big opportunity ahead.
Marcus Spears believes Blue can take the opportunity and then some. Spears says Blue could wind up being “an unsung guy” for Dallas when we reflect on the upcoming season. Reports on the running back are already positive throughout offseason work as well.
“I think the Dallas offensive line is going to be one of the more physical and athletic offensive lines when it comes to zone schemes and as far as getting running backs in lanes and allowing them to use speed,” Spears said. “I’m looking forward to this rookie maybe shocking a lot of people. A lot of good stuff coming out on him when he was there for rookie minicamp and OTAs. The speed jumps off the page at 4.38. He could be an unsung guy that we could talk about a lot.”
To Spears’ point, offensive line has been a staple of the Cowboys for years now. Jerry Jones and the front office had to rework the group but selecting Tyler Booker with the No. 12 overall pick has them feeling like the next great era is set to take off. Last year’s first-rounder, Tyler Guyton, is looking for a better sophomore campaign at left tackle, while the 2023 first-round selection, Tyler Smith, is already a two-time Pro Bowler. Cooper Beebe (another second-year player) and Terrence Steele round out the group.
