This week, as Bills quarterback Josh Allen landed the cover for Madden NFL 24, NFL fans noticed a glaring mistake EA Sports made on the game’s artwork. Zooming in on Allen’s face in the shot reveals a mistake in the photoshopping of his facemask.

A piece of the mask, which doesn’t appear to exist in other photos of the quarterback, is extended out toward the middle of his mouth. The mistake does require a keen set of eyes to spot, but it’s definitely there.

Over the past couple of editions of Madden NFL, many have complained about the gameplay. The gameplay, as well as the lack of updates to key modes, such as the highly-popular Franchise mode, have fans a bit down about the game’s bugs. If the latest cover error is any indication, those bugs may not have been fixed for the 2024 edition.

One fan replied on Twitter: “I know it’s a little detail but if they missed this you think they’re gonna give us a quality game?” Another responded: “Madden can’t get nothing right like I can’t be surprised anymore”

The Buffalo Bills quarterback is joining a long list of legends to grace the Madden NFL video game franchise cover.

The game’s namesake, John Madden, earned the honor of gracing the cover of Madden NFL 23. It was a nod to his decades of contributing to the game of football. It also happened to be one of the most well-received covers in the history of the game, and an emotional tribute.

Prior, Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady shared the cover of Madden NFL 22 following their battle in the Super Bowl earlier that year. Both athletes also featured on the cover by themselves in previous editions, but they joined forces for a memorable iteration that season.

Additionally, Lamar Jackson took the NFL by storm when he became the Baltimore Ravens’ starting quarterback, and he was chosen to grace the cover of Madden NFL 21 afterward. Jackson remains one of the most fun players to use in the game, and it’s no surprise he was chosen for the cover of the game early on in his career.

Josh Allen takes over the cover after 4,283 passing yards and 35 passing touchdowns in his fifth season in the league. He also added 762 rushing yards and another seven touchdowns on the ground. He led the Bills to a 13-win finish to the 2022 season.
