Justin Fields injury update: Aaron Glenn reveals Jets QB's status vs. Dolphins

Justin Fields is back. The Jets quarterback has cleared concussion protocol and will start in Week 4 for New York, per the team’s head coach Aaron Glenn. They’re playing the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football.
Glenn previously stated that if Fields was cleared to play this week, he would start over backup Tyrod Taylor. While the veteran almost led the Jets to their first win of the season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3, Fields will takeover.
His absence stems from the quarterback suffering a concussion in New York’s 30-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. It was not a great performance for the former Ohio State star, as he completed three of 11 passes for 27 yards. Fields also rushed for 49 yards on five carries in the loss.
During last week’s near-victory, Taylor completed 26 of 36 passes for 197 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the 29-27 loss. Fields will be hoping to play more like he did in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which was a much more promising performance.

There will be no quarterback controversy in New York though, regardless of Fields’ play in Week 4. Glenn has continued to back Fields over the last couple of days.

“Justin came in as our starter and he’s been our starter, so listen, Tyrod was the backup,” Glenn said, per the team’s official website. “So, I want to make sure I know exactly where Justin is at. I don’t want to say anything until I know that Justin is cleared. So once Justin is cleared, I will let you know exactly where we’re going.”
Alas, Fields signed with the Jets during the offseason after spending the 2024 season with the Steelers. In the season opener, Fields threw for 218 yards, rushed for 48 yards, and scored three total TDs in the Jets’ 34-32 loss to Pittsburgh.
“We’re going to see the things that he likes, and we’re also going to progress with the things he’s not good at, so he can get better in that aspect,” Glenn said after the Week 1 loss. “So, this is still a work in progress.
“And we’re going to continue to work with him, and I know, just because of the type of person that he is and how he’s always been, he’s going to do everything he can to perfect that. Again, I look forward to seeing him, how he matures through the season.”
