Lamar Jackson injury update: John Harbaugh gives latest on Ravens QB ailment, diagnosis
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was injured in a Sunday Night Football game against the New England Patriots. The superstar gunslinger suffered a back injury and was eventually ruled out of the contest.
Backup Tyler Huntley went in and helped lead Baltimore build a 24-13 lead. Ultimately, it wouldn’t be enough, as New England stormed back to win 28-24. And the long-term health of Jackson was the focus after the game.
According to Greg Auman of FOX Sports, coach John Harbaugh said after the game that Lamar Jackson has a bruised back. The severity of the injury and how it might affect him going forward is unknown.
The injury occurred late in the second quarter as Lamar Jackson was on the run. He slid down but was hit by a New England player as he slid, seemingly taking a knee to the lower back.
NBC sideline reporter Melissa Stark revealed that it was a back injury and he was questionable to return. After halftime, Baltimore officially ruled him out for the contest.
“We just got word that is is questionable to return with a back injury,” Stark said on the broadcast. “He had a really hard time getting up those stairs and coming back down those stairs to go back to the locker room. Was grimacing in pain. It has been an injury filled year for him.”

Lamar Jackson has dealt with multiple injuries so far this season. He missed three games earlier in the season with a hamstring injury. He returned from that ailment in Week 9.
However, he has been dealing with a lingering back issue in recent weeks. That was aggravated on Sunday night.
Baltimore’s success has often been tied to the play of the immensely talented quarterback. Jackson is coming off a career year in 2024, in which he threw for 4,172 yards and 41 touchdowns, against just four interceptions.
He hasn’t quite been able to reproduce that magic this season, in part because of the injuries. Going into Sunday night’s game against New England, Lamar Jackson had thrown for 2,210 yards and 18 touchdowns, against six interceptions.
