The Las Vegas Raiders and Pete Carroll are aiming to work on an agreement to make him their next head coach, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

While there is no deal yet, the two sides remain in discussions.

Carroll, 73, spent the 2024 season away from the sidelines after transitioning into an adviser role with the Seattle Seahawks. The Raiders appear to be reaching the end of their search to replace Antonio Pierce. Las Vegas went 4-13 this past season, which led to the decision to move on from Pierce and general manager Tom Telesco after one year.

Carroll compiled a 137-89 record during his time in Seattle. He also took the team to the playoffs a total of 10 times and had a 10-9 postseason record, winning a Super Bowl in 2013. That came after a decorated run as the head coach at USC from 2001-09, where he had a 97-19 record and took the Trojans to seven Pac-10 titles and four Rose Bowl victories.

The Raiders’ struggles this season were largely due to the quarterback position. Gardner Minshew came in over the offseason to join Aidan O’Connell in Las Vegas, but neither quarterback could get much going. The franchise also moved on from offensive coordinator Luke Getsy during the season amid the struggles. Still, there was a bright spot in Brock Bowers, who rewrote the rookie record books for a tight end.

Las Vegas will have the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft after previously staying in contention for the top spot. However, victories over the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints meant the Raiders fell down the board and potentially out of the range of the top two quarterback prospects: Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward.
