Nuggets guard Peyton Watson explains why donating Raising Cane's bikes to children is important to him

Denver Nuggets guard Peyton Watson is making sure children in the Denver area have a happy holiday season by donating Raising Cane‘s bikes and helmets. On3 recently spoke with the 23-year-old, who distributed 100 bikes and helmets at a Raising Cane’s restaurant in Denver. Watson explained why the event is important to him.

“It just means putting a smile on these kids’ faces,” Peyton Watson told On3. “I think that growing up for me, bikes and just getting outside and playing with my friends, it was a huge thing for me coming up, and it built a lot of character development and kind of that competitive spirit that I have now. So it’s just something that brings me back to my childhood, and I really like to do nice things for these kids and be a part of events like this.”

Watson then revealed that donating Raising Cane’s bikes to kids motivates him to do more in the community. “This is always more motivation. Just seeing the people that show up, the people that show genuine love, the fans that support, it genuinely does show me that even though I know it or I don’t that people can count on you and people can look up to you to be one of those people who help out in the community and hopefully inspire them one day to give back and help when they can,” he said. “So it’s something that I’ve been doing for a long time, since high school. It’s something I’ve had a passion for, and I will continue to do it.”

This is the sixth consecutive year Raising Cane’s has teamed up with youth organizations and athletes like Watson to surprise kids with new bikes and helmets. The tradition began with Raising Cane’s founder and owner, Todd Graves, wanted to share the same happiness he felt when he got a bike on Christmas Day. Raising Cane’s plans to distribute more than 4,000 bikes and helmets nationwide this holiday season.

Watson has been with the Nuggets since he entered the NBA in 2022. The former UCLA star was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round (No. 30 overall) in the draft before being traded to Denver. In his rookie season, Watson helped the Nuggets win their first NBA championship.
