Report: Dalvin Cook to visit another team, practice squad 'likely' if he joins Cowboys

The Cowboys brought in a name they have been linked with in the past, Dalvin Cook, for a visit on Monday night. Running back has been a position of issue in Dallas, not having much invested at the moment.
Flash forward nearly 24 hours and the visit between Dallas and Cook is complete. Jon Machota of The Athletic says a workout took place, saying the running back is in “good shape.” However, if Cook were to sign on with the Cowboys, it would be as a member of the practice squad.
But there is no guarantee he will wind up in Dallas. Machota added Cook will still take at least one more visit before making a decision. The specific team is not yet known.
“Veteran RB Dalvin Cook worked out for the Cowboys today,” Machota said via X. “He looked to be in good shape, but he has at least one other visit with another team. If he were to join the Cowboys it would likely be to their practice squad”

Cook was a part of two teams last season, suiting up for the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens. However, he only saw game time with the Jets during the regular season, playing in 15 games with one start, rushing for 214 yards and no touchdowns on 67 carries.

Running back has been a huge offseason talking point in Dallas. Tony Pollard left in free agency, now playing for the Tennessee Titans. Rico Dowdle was viewed as the starter after being resigned until a reunion with Ezekiel Elliott took place. Deuce Vaughn was the third and final back to make Tuesday’s cuts on the 53-man roster.
Many thought Dallas would take a running back on Day 2 or 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft, being heavily linked with Jonathon Brooks. The front office decided to go in a different direction, though, leaving all of the work to do in free agency.
The Cowboys have flirted with the idea of signing Cook in the past, most recently as the prior offseason. However, things have not worked out and left him to play elsewhere. That outcome is still a possibility due to another visit taking place, presumably before the regular season begins.
