Report: Packers to release CB Jaire Alexander

The Green Bay Packers are reportedly released cornerback Jaire Alexander, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The team recently offered Alexander a restructured contract, but the two sides could not come to an agreement.
The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman said Alexander and his agent, John Thornton of Roc Nation, did not agree to a restructured contract last month. Alexander had two years remaining on his current deal and wanted to stay with the Packers. Over the Cap indicated that Alexander has a 2025 cap number of $24.6 million, the third-highest on the team behind quarterback Jordan Love ($29.7 million) and defensive end Rashan Gary ($25.8 million).
Alexander is a talented cornerback but has had issues staying healthy. Over the last two seasons, the former Louisville Cardinals star played in 16 of a potential 37 games due to four different injuries and being suspended for one game. Schneidman said that Alexander participated in the voluntary first week of the offseason program, but it was virtual because of the draft being held in Green Bay.
He did not report to Lambeau Field for in-person offseason work but planned to be at the mandatory minicamp on June 10. However, that is no longer the case.

In just seven games last season, Alexander had 16 tackles, two interceptions and a touchdown off a pick-six. Alexander has 12 career interceptions and when he was healthy, he had five interceptions in 2022 over the course of 16 games.
“We invested a lot in Jaire and want to make sure, if he’s not gonna be on our football team helping us win games, that we get something back for that investment,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said earlier this offseason. “So we’ll see where it goes, but again, working with (Thornton) weekly and trying to figure out what’s best for both Jaire and the Packers.”
