Cornerback has not been a position of depth for the Dallas Cowboys early in training camp. Multiple guys are going through long-term injuries. Rookie Shavon Revel Jr. is one of them, recovering from a torn ACL he suffered while at East Carolina.

From the get-go, the Cowboys have been optimistic about Revel getting back sooner rather than let. But on Thursday, Revel’s father provided an update on when his son could be back on the practice field. It could be another two months due to the knee issue.

“Right now, just take your time,” his father said Thursday via 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. “They’ll probably get him out there and work the next six to eight weeks. Do what they need to do in order to get stronger, get acclimated to the system. Once he gets acclimated, probably seeing, I’m predicting, six to eight weeks.”

With the early end being six weeks, that would have Revel practicing just before the Cowboys take on the Chicago Bears in Week 3. If he need the extra 14 days, Dallas is scheduled to face the New York Jets on Oct. 5. However, as Revel’s father mentioned, getting acclimated to the NFL is going to take some time. The cornerback might need to get up to speed before officially taking a competitive snap for the Cowboys.

Revel was viewed as somebody with first-round potential entering the 2025 NFL Draft. However, the medicals forced him to slide down plenty of draft boards. Eventually, the Cowboys felt as if the value was too good to pass up on. He was taken with the No. 76 overall selection.

Stephen Jones provides Shavon Revel update

On Wednesday, Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones gave a Revel update from his own perspective. Jones gave a much shorter timeline and stated his confidence while doing so. A different tone than what Revel’s Dad provided.

“We just think the world of him,” Jones said. “We really think he’s going to be a hell of a player in this league. But we’re on that same thing (as Trevon Diggs) of when do we think we’ll get him back. I’m 99 percent sure he’ll be back in the next couple of weeks. But then he’s a rookie, so it’s going to take a minute for him to get used to it and what it’s like to be a pro and those types of things.”
