Reminds Us Of

Joe Flacco
Joe Flacco
QB / 6-6 / 245
DelawareDelaware · HS Class of 2003
Baltimore2008 Draft · Rnd 1 · Pick 18

Drew Allar is unique in that there are not many pocket passers at his size (6-foot-5, 230 pounds) with his arm dexterity. The Penn State signal caller not only has plus arm strength – he delivers throws from multiple arm slots and gets considerable rotation throughout his upper body allowing for off-platform throws. There does not appear to be a great comp for Allar. We considered Philip Rivers and Josh Allen before ultimately settling on Flacco. Rivers has a unique playing style and release and it’s tough to project Allar ending up as a similar athlete and rush threat to Allen. While he’s an inch or two shorter than Flacco, we see some similarities in the plus arm talent, movement skills and even some of the delivery from Flacco’s time at Delaware and ultimately in the NFL.

Drew Allar Scouting Summary
Charles Power
10/19/21

Big-bodied signal caller who looks like the top arm talent in the 2022 cycle. Has a strong, pliable arm with the ability to hit all portions of the field without strain. Typically throws with a three-quarters release but has the dexterity to throw from multiple arm slots when needed. A loose thrower with considerable rotation throughout his upper body. Quickly flicks side-armed passes into small windows across the middle of the field. Also shows the ability to layer passes over the second level of the defense. Consistently fitting throws into tight windows as a senior. Has a deep catalog of throws. Is an average athlete for the position. Employed as a designed runner and has satisfactory mobility, using his size to run with power. Improvises and makes second-reaction plays when things break down. Plays in a deep shot gun which is typically not beneficial for fostering pocket feel, but shows the ability to step up and slide within the pocket at times. Playing his best as a senior and is among the more productive top quarterbacks in the 2022 cycle. Led his high school (not a traditional power) to an undefeated regular season.
