Tremaine Edmunds and Lander Barton were both 6-foot-4.5, 220 pound linebackers who doubled as tight ends on offense at the high school level. Like Edmunds, Barton is also a basketball player, averaging 19 points per game as junior. Both also have siblings in the NFL. Barton’s fluidity in space and skill in coverage is unique for his size. The skill set points to a future as a big off-ball linebacker in college and perhaps the NFL.

Jumbo linebacker with top notch fluidity, functional athleticism, range and coverage skills. A NFL legacy with two older brothers currently playing professionally - considered to be the best of the three at this stage. Has outstanding stature at 6-foot-4.5 and 220 pounds. Well-built and has the frame to easily hold 240 pounds. A natural mover in space, particularly for his size. Effective at dropping into space. Shows strong cover ability in zone and man coverage. Was able to carry top wide receivers down the middle of the field at All-American Bowl practices. Moves like a high-end athlete with the range to play sideline to sideline. Strong at the point of attack and has advanced block-shedding skills. Highly productive, averaging over 10 tackles per game over three high school seasons. Has plus ball skills at linebacker and doubled as a receiver and tight end at the high school level. Shows his athleticism and coordination on the basketball court where he averaged nearly 20 points per game as a junior. 

Lander Barton Scouting Summary

We tabbed Lander Barton as a potential riser heading into the All-American Bowl. He exceeded those expectations. The Utah and NFL legacy impressed in every facet. He’s physically imposing at around 6-foot-4, 220 pounds. We thought he had the best movement skills of the jumbo linebackers at either game. Barton is a natural in space and coverage. He can flip his hips and turn and run while carrying receivers over the middle of the field. The play speed and instincts also showed up in the game, where Barton made some impressive plays in pursuit.



Lander Barton stands out at All-American Bowl week

Lander Barton was a standout during the West’s morning practice at the All-American Bowl. The 6-foot-4.5, 220-pounder had one of the plays of the day on an interception on Ohio State signee Devin Brown in 11-on-11 work. Barton carried a slot receiver downfield and went up to high-point for the interception. We also saw him flash some physicality and striking power in putting quickly neutralizing a check down route. Barton didn’t take as many reps during the afternoon session, but still looked good when he was out there. He’s looked like the top linebacker in practice thus far
