Luke Nickel's refined mechanics, throwing motion, movement patterns, build and overall skill set remind us of Matt Barkley. Though Barkley was ranked as an industry 5-star at the time, Nickel is a more productive high school player.

High-floor pocket operator with underrated arm talent and a winning track record against top competition. Measured in at 6-foot-1.5, 215 pounds with a 9.5-inch hand before his senior season. Led his team to back-to-back state titles in a high classification. Completed 67.8% of his passes for 3,748 yards, (12.2 yards per attempt) and 44 touchdowns against 7 interceptions. Rushed for 296 yards and 6 more scores. Technically sound passer. Has a a high release point with a consistent over-the-top motion. Shows quality downfield arm strength. Not afraid to push the football downfield. Throws with touch and layers his passes. Can fit throws into tight windows over the middle. Footwork is sound. Smart player who is tested against top defenses. Played his best football down the stretch as a senior, throwing 20 touchdowns and 0 interceptions in the playoffs as a senior. Adequate mover, but very unlikely to project as a run threat in college or the NFL. Pure physical traits may not wow you, but a solid, consistent signal caller with a high floor.
