Personal Life

Even though he's an opposing coach, count Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko as a fan of Mitchell Evans. Evans torched Elko's defense during the 2023 season when he was the head coach at Duke. Evans finished with six catches for a career-high 134 yards, and it's safe to say that Elko remembers that night just fine. "I think he's got really, really good size, and so he becomes a difficult matchup," Elko said. "He runs well. We had a hard time getting a big-bodied kid on him that was capable of running with him, and so I think that's the challenge that a really good tight end presents. And so obviously we're aware of him, and certainly a kid we're paying a lot of attention to." Evans had a breakout season in 2023 before being sidelined with an injury. He played in eight games as a junior, starting seven, and ended the season as the team’s top receiving target, averaging 52.8 yards per game. Through those eight games, Evans totaled 29 receptions for 422 yards and a touchdown during the season, averaging 14.6 yards per catch.
