Amir Brown’s recruitment took a sharp turn this fall — and it didn’t take long for the 2027 four-star running back to find clarity. The Rolesville (N.C.) standout committed to North Carolina on Aug. 3, but after backing off that pledge on Oct. 15, a new opportunity emerged. Nebraska entered the picture in September, and not long after, Brown found the fit he had been looking for.

The No. 286 prospect in the 2027 Rivals Industry Ranking committed to the Cornhuskers.

Brown visited Nebraska twice in back-to-back weeks for the Northwestern and USC games. He went with his dad first, then returned with his mom. By the end of the first visit, he knew Lincoln was special.

“The fans blew me away,” Brown told Rivals. “They’re the No. 1 fan base. So passionate. They love their program. The environment is different — it’s a quiet place, but on game day the fans make it crazy.”

“I knew on the first visit. The second one made it clear. My mom and dad knew it too. The staff, the energy — everything felt right.”

Several factors pushed the Cornhuskers to the top.

“They made me a priority from day one and they have a clear plan to develop me. My connection with the staff was big too. Everyone there is genuine, and I felt great on campus.

“How they want to develop me as a player and a man was big. I kept smiling on campus. I was just happy there and I knew it was the place.”

This commitment is different. After backing off his early pledge to North Carolina, Brown approached this decision with more patience and clarity.

“This commitment is very different. I took more time and thought about it a lot more.”

Brown believes in the Nebraska coaches

Brown and Nebraska had been in light contact for a while, but things ramped up in late August.

“We always followed each other and on Aug. 26, coach EJ texted me asking if I wanted to be recruited. That’s when we really started talking.”

Running backs coach EJ Barthel traveled to Rolesville on Sept. 25. The in-person visit changed everything.

“Coach EJ came to see me, and that’s when he offered. From there, it took off. My relationship with him is great. He’s a great coach, and he talked about how I could contribute to the offense — even how he wants to make me a Heisman reason.”

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule played an important role in sealing the decision.

“I like him a lot. He’s stable. The team will be great in the years to come. They’re going to keep getting better. He FaceTimes me, tells me how much he wants me. He’s a players’ coach and has great love for his players.”

Brown said the authenticity from Rhule and his staff stood out immediately.

“They make me feel wanted — like a true priority. No fake love. Everyone is genuine. Me and my parents fell in love with it.”
