After the release of the latest Rivals300 rankings for the 2027 cycle this week, Arlington (Texas) Trinity cornerback John Meredith is now the top-ranked recruit in the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is now also the lone prospect in the cycle to have Five-Star Plus+ status. Recruits who earn that title are among the the elite of elite, named a five-star prospect by all three major recruiting services: Rivals, 247Sports and ESPN.

Meredith leaped to the top spot of the industry rankings after landing at No. 4 in the Rivals300. EDGE LaDamion Guyton was also a Five-Star Plus+ prospect, but the Texas Tech commit reclassified up to the 2026 cycle earlier this month.

The Lone Star State defensive back is currently in the mix to finish the cycle as the top-ranked recruit, according to Rivals Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power:

“Meredith is a big, athletic boundary corner at around 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. We haven’t seen a cornerback finish as the No. 1 overall player in recent years with former LSU star and top-two pick Derek Stingley coming the closest in the 2019 cycle. Given their talent and murkiness at the top of the 2027 cycle, it’s possible (Joshua) Dobson or Meredith could make a run,” Power wrote.

On the recruiting front, Meredith has kept things relatively quite compared to the other five-stars in the cycle. Earlier this month, though, Texas A&M began to trend for Meredith in the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine. The Aggies are among the many top programs after his pledge, to no surprise.

“Texas A&M is doing the best job with me right now, and they are sitting at the top of my list,” Meredith told Rivals’ Chad Simmons in July. “Every time I go there, it feels like home. Coach JP (Jordan Peterson) and coach Mason (Smith) make it feel like I already go there. They are hitting me up every day and they know me really well. I am treated like family every time I am on campus.”

John Meredith Scouting Summary

Rivals’ Scouting and Rankings team previously wrote this of Meredith as a prospect:

“Long and dynamic corner prospect with elite length and top-end speed. Can cover any body type at receiver that lines up against him. 6-foot-2, 180-plus pounds with 33-inch arms. Ran sub-22 in the 200m and jumped over 43 feet in the triple jump during his sophomore track and field season. Has the speed and hip fluidity to cover more sudden receivers and the physicality and length to handle bigger-bodied options. Excellent ball skills and ability to attack the football in the air. Needs to continue developing footwork and instincts in man coverage but has all the physical and athletic tools coaches covet at the position.”
