Houston Cy Springs four-star athlete Paris Melvin has whittled his list of top schools down to a final four.

The 6-foot playmaker told 247Sports’ Mike Roach on Tuesday that Arizona, Baylor, Houston and Ole Miss make up his quartet of remaining contenders. He’s yet to lock in a commitment date, but Melvin is entering the final phases of his process ahead of his senior season.

In February, Melvin named a top 10. Arizona State, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, SMU, Oklahoma and Texas A&M are no longer in the mix. Ole Miss was not a part of that top 10, but the Rebels got him to campus for an official visit this month and are among the finalists for the blue-chipper.

Melvin is the No. 252 overall prospect and No. 13 athlete in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 34 player in Texas.

Excelling on both sides of the ball at the high school level, Melvin ran the ball 147 times for 1,091 yards and 18 touchdowns while also hauling in 350 receiving yards as a junior in 2024. On defense, Melvin had 13 tackles, an interception and four pass deflections, per MaxPreps.

Cy Springs won six games in 2024 competing in 6A Division II. The Panthers ranked as the No. 172 team in the state of Texas, according to the On3 Composite.

Can Houston keep Melvin home?

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently gives a slight edge to the hometown Cougars. Houston has been working to build around local five-star quarterback commit Keisean Henderson, and Melvin is one of the top Lone Star State recruits on the board heading toward July.

“We build out of Houston first, the best players come out of Houston and I’ll stick by that. Houston produces the most athletes that go the furthest,” Henderson told On3’s Shea Dixon in February.

Houston’s 2026 class features 10 commits to date and ranks just No. 52 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Eight of the 10 commits hail from Texas, with the other pair checking in from Louisiana.

While Henderson, a true class jewel and the No. 16 overall prospect this cycle, headlines the class for head coach Willie Fritz and his staff, he’s the only blue-chipper committed to Houston thus far. Port-Neches Grove (Texas) three-star interior offensive lineman Aaron Wolford (No. 598 NATL.) is the next highest-ranked commit in the class.

Landing a player like Melvin will be crucial for the Cougars. The athlete has previously said that he’s eyeing a decision ahead of the beginning of his senior season.
