4-star DL Zion Williams sets commitment date

Lufkin (Texas) four-star defensive lineman Zion Williams is amidst crunch time in his recruitment. He sees the finish line and is ready to announce his college decision this summer.

On Monday, he announced via social media that he’s set to commit on July 4. While finalists have not been officially named, he accompanied his announcement with photos in LSU, TCU, Texas and Texas A&M gear.

Williams logged his official visit to TCU at the beginning of May and was at LSU over the weekend. He’s expected to take his OV to Texas A&M this weekend, then round things out with Texas on the June 21 weekend.

The 6-foot-3 lineman is the No. 355 overall prospect and No. 30 DL in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 55 player in Texas.

When speaking InsideTexas’ Justin Wells last month, Williams was still searching for what will be the biggest factor in his decision. He also said he is planning on enrolling early at wherever he lands.

“Honestly, I’ve been thinking about that a lot,” Williams told Wells. “It’s just maybe one day it’ll click for me but I haven’t had that click feeling yet. I think I need to just sit down and think about it after my last official visit, which is to Texas. I’ll for sure decide before my senior season starts. That’s a promise.”

Texas currently owns the slight lead over LSU for Williams’ pledge, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). According to On3 VP of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong, however, there is “confidence around the Tigers’ position” with the 300-pounder.
