4-star RB Byron Louis sets commitment date

One of the top uncommitted running backs in the nation will come off the board later this fall.

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star running back Byron Louis will announce his decision on Sept. 21, he tells On3’s Hayes Fawcett. His finalists remain Georgia, Florida State, Miami and Wisconsin.

Louis is the No. 226 overall prospect and No. 15 RB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 35 player in Florida.

In June, the 5-foot-10.5, 205-pounder took an official visit to each of his four finalists. Florida State is currently trending for his pledge, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Louis has been extremely productive over the past two years for Heritage. As a sophomore in 2022, he backed up current Miami running back Mark Fletcher, toting the rock 55 times for 439 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a junior, he stepped into the No. 1 back role and and rushed 160 times for 1,224 yards and 18 touchdowns. The one-two punch of he and Texas QB commit Dia Bell will be a major challenge for defenses to handle.

Louis talks his finalists

When speaking with On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons earlier this month, Louis noted that he was nearing his decision. He broke down what is factoring into his eventual commitment, as well as what interests him about each of his four finalists.

“Ultimately, I will go where I feel the most comfortable. It is about that home-like feeling for me. Yes, I am going somewhere to play football, but I have to live there too. I will go to a place that fits me completely,” Louis said.

Miami: “Miami’s pitch is, it’s home. They want me to stay home and put it on for my city and represent the neighborhood I grew up in.”

Florida State: “Florida State wants me to make my own decision. They tell me, if it is right, then it is right. Coach Mike Norvell believes Florida State is the best school for me, but he is not pressuring me and he wants me to make the best decision for me.”

Georgia and Wisconsin: “Both Georgia and Wisconsin can be called RBU. They produce great running backs, and if I want to play big-time football, they both say to come there. They both have good coaches and feature the running backs in their offenses.”
