Arizona is heating up on the recruiting trail and added a talent piece out of the Lone Star State.

Touted 2027 safety Jalani Culpepper committed to the Wildcats on Wednesday — over the likes of SMU, Houston and others.

The playmaking defender from Georgetown (Texas) East View High School made multiple visits out to Arizona. Brent Brennan and lead recruiter Brett Arce made the decision easy for Culpepper.

“Arizona has always been one of my favorite schools,” he told Rivals. “I have visited up there numerous times and have been continuing to grow my connection with the coaching staff there. The coaching staff has gone above and beyond to make sure that my family and I feel at home there.”

The No. 63-ranked safety in the 2027 class chose the Wildcats over the Mustangs, who also hosted Culpepper a few times this fall.

“My connection with the coaches continues to grow. They have been very thorough in recruiting me and have been really hands-on,” he detailed. “SMU was a team that was right there. Arizona had an edge with the connections I made with coaches and the connections the coaches made with my family.”

Arizona is in line to sign five prospects out of Texas in the 2026 cycle.

Brennan and the Wildcats have their first commitment on board in 2027, and it’s fittingly from one of the staff’s favorite stomping grounds.

“I am very excited about the role I can play and contribute to the team,” said Culpepper. “I feel like I can go in and play early and impact, while continuing to grow as a student athlete. The Arizona program has been constantly improving, and I would love to be a part of that.”
