Behind the Committment: 2026 South Florida DE Michael Harris commits to Sacramento State

It’s not often that a recruit decides to commit to a school that is on the opposite coast of the country, but such is the case for coveted 2026 edge Michael Harris. The South Florida talent committed to Sacramento State on Wednesday.
“I love the program they are building over there. The culture is nice. The coaching staff is really welcoming. I talked to my mom about it, and we made the decision.”
Harris stated that Missouri, Oregon State, and UCF were the other schools in contention for his commitment. Harris is the second South Florida athlete to commit to the 2026 class, along with rising two-way prospect John Jones.
“It’s really about getting on the field as a true freshman. They are building a good program over there. I like what they’re doing with the program.”
The six-foot-six high school senior never visited Sacramento State, but plans to travel to the West Coast next Saturday when the Hornets host Central Arkansas.

Harris received the offer from Sac State on August 25th, and the staff liked what they saw from the South Dade edge after two games.
“They told me they had me on their recruiting board for a while. They loved my film. They loved my size, my ranginess, and my length. These couple of games I’ve had, they said I’m imposing and they like what I’m doing.”
Hornets defensive coordinator Marcus Patton and assistant edge coach Jeremiah Kose have been instrumental in gaining Harris’s commitment.
“He said I did a better job setting the edge than I did last year.”
Harris has no other visits planned.
“It’s truly a blessing being able to commit to a school like that. I feel like I can bring a lot of energy to the team.”
