Elite 2026 recruit McKenna Woliczko commits to Iowa

Elite 2026 recruit McKenna Woliczko has committed to Iowa, she announced. The 6-foot-2 wing from San Jose (California) Archbishop Mitty High School chose the Hawkeyes over Ohio State, South Carolina and USC.
“I’m just so grateful for the opportunities and environment Iowa will provide for me,” she told Rivals. “The foundation set by past girls helps pave the way for future Iowa women’s basketball players. The environment and college feel of Iowa city definitely stands out as well, it just seems like somewhere I’d enjoy to be for the next four years. I can’t wait to grow as a player and person at Iowa.”
There were several factors Woliczko was considering when choosing a landing spot.
“That family feel is really important,” Woliczko told Rivals. “Going through my injury – hopefully this is my last one – but seeing how you need that support behind you no matter what stage you’re at. If I’m going to be far away from home, I’m going to need that support from my teammates and my coaches and the school in general, so I feel like that’s a really big thing. I also want to like the campus…Also, I want a school that’s going to help me be ready for the WNBA and that will make it easier for that transition.”
Woliczko played for Team USA for the second consecutive year this summer. She won gold at the U17 Women’s World Cup, where Woliczko tied the all-time USA rebounding record with 17 boards.

“I believe Iowa is a perfect fit for me as I balance basketball, academics and and overall college experience,” she said. “The style of play is perfect for me as my versatility will be utilized at a high level, and I can grow into the all-around player I envision for myself at the next level. Meeting my future professor in elementary education has inspired me for my future studies and I cannot say enough about Iowa City, I just fell in love!”
Woliczko previously talked to Rivals about her experience with the Hawkeyes through the recruitment process.
“I have a really good relationship with all the coaches,” Woliczko previously told Rivals. “I talk to them a lot and I just love them as people and I could see them coaching me. When I went on Iowa’s campus in the fall, I really enjoyed the girls. I feel like all of them were very chill, but also they want to get better and play great basketball. I also really loved the campus. It kind of had that smaller college town vibe and I really liked that. Obviously, they have a big fan base. I think that’s really cool to have, with all those people supporting women’s basketball. I thought that was super cool.”
