In-state OL Michael Ionata talks commitment to Florida State, giving pledge during Legacy Weekend

Clearwater (Fla.) Calvary Christian offensive tackle Michael Ionata tells On3 he has committed to Florida State.
The coveted in-state prospect gave head coach Mike Norvell and his staff his pledge during a visit to campus for Legacy Weekend.
Making it extra special, Ionata’s father, Joey Ionata, played offensive tackle at Florida State from 1984 to 1988. His uncle John Ionata also played offensive tackle at Florida State from 1982 to 1985.
“The whole staff has done a great job of making a connection with me and they make me feel like I am a part of the Florida State family and that really means a lot to me,” Ionata told On3.
Tabbed by the On3 Industry as the nation’s No. 62 interior offensive line prospect, the 6-foot-6, 305-pound Ionata becomes commit No. 8 for Florida State in the 2026 class.

Ionata chose the Seminoles over Kentucky, West Virginia, South Florida and several others. The Seminoles have On3’s No. 18 class at this point in the cycle.
“Great coaches who push you to be the best they can be and the atmosphere is unreal,” Ionata added regarding his commitment. “The family history I have there with my dad and uncle both playing football there.”
After winning the ACC Championship two years ago, Ionatta believes Florida State will quickly get back on track.
“They have coaches who believe that they will be successful and players who are excited to win,” Ionatta said.
