Sam Funches, a four-star center in the 2026 class, has committed to Gonzaga, he told Rivals.

The 6-foot-11 senior out of Germantown High School (MS) ultimately chose the Bulldogs over Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and LSU. He also received offers from Cal, Vanderbilt, Jackson State, Kansas State, Kansas, Penn State, and others.

Funches is ranked as the No. 41 overall player in the 2026 class, according to Rivals’ Top-150 Player Rankings. He’s also the No. 7 ranked center and the No. 1 player out of Mississippi. He averaged 11.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks playing for the Sipp United travel program on the Puma Pro16 Circuit this summer while shooting 49.5 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from three.

Funches on why he chose Gonzaga

Sam Funches discussed his decision to choose the Zags with Rivals.

“They have the perfect play style for me and they put their bigs in the league.”

In his own words, what type of player is Gonzaga getting in Funches?

“Versatile and big. I play inside out but I still have things to improve on.”

He has a message for Zags fans.

“I’m just here to play ball.”
